Our prayer was simple: Lord, use us to be Your hands and feet. Help us see people the way You see them. What we didn’t expect was how powerfully He would answer that prayer through a quiet 16-year-old young man. He was the kind of person who stayed in the background—soft-spoken, reserved, and often overlooked. For two years, his profile sat on the child sponsorship list. Unchosen. Unseen.
But God sees what we often miss.
During one of our gatherings, someone shared a raw and powerful testimony about surviving a suicide attempt. It was a holy moment—one that opened the door for healing. Afterward, this young man approached with courage and tears in his eyes. He shared that he had also been struggling with suicidal thoughts. He had been bullied for his speech impediment and often felt like he didn’t matter. In that moment, he stepped out of his comfort zone and asked for prayer.
Later, when we saw his sponsorship profile again, it was clear that God had orchestrated the connection. Without speaking a word, we both knew: He’s the one.
When we told him he had been chosen, his whole face lit up—joy and disbelief shining through. Then came his question: “Why me?”
The answer was simple: Because we see something special in you. Because God sees you. You are chosen. You are deeply loved. And your life has purpose.
What he didn’t know was that long before we met him, God had already placed him on our hearts. God had already been calling him out of the shadows and into His marvelous light.
His story is a reminder that no one is forgotten in God’s Kingdom. He is the God who leaves the ninety-nine for the one. He sees the overlooked, the hurting, the unheard—and He calls them beloved.
This mission trip reminded us of that truth.
Through this young man, God showed us that our role isn’t just to go—it’s to see, to love, and to listen, just like Jesus did. We may have become his sponsors, but in so many ways, God used him to minister to us.
He is a living testimony of God’s redemptive love.
