While on Skid Row, our team not only pushed past our fears to hand out food, but also reached out with a compassionate touch to the people we met. Many of those we ministered to had not showered in months, and some were still under the influence of drugs. It was eye-opening, and we knew that there was opportunity to love on this community.
After the outreach, several team members shared that they now feel confident speaking with homeless individuals in our own hometown of Tampa, FL. Before this trip, they might have crossed the street to avoid the very people we intentionally sought out.
The impact was immediate—just the day after we returned, on Sunday after church, two of our team members saw a homeless person and gave them food. There was no longer a spirit of fear hindering them from making an impact.
Through this experience, we were reminded that no matter where we go, we are called to be a light for Jesus, shining His love into the places that need it most.
